Gibson Co.: Jason Perry Won't Face Death Penalty

A Gibson County man won't face the death penalty for the murder of his estranged girlfriend.

The Evansville Courier Press reports Gibson County Prosecutor Rob Krieg says his office considered the recommendations of a panel of legal experts in deciding to seek life without parole rather than the death penalty.

Krieg says the high cost of a death penalty trial was a factor, but not the determining factor.

The 31-year-old Perry is charged in the shooting death of Jessica Tice in front of the couple's teenage son at a Princeton restaurant in May.

Meanwhile, Perry is scheduled to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he is competent to stand trial and to determine if an insanity defense may be used.
