Federal Judge Blocks Indiana's Chemical Abortion Law

A federal judge is blocking new limits state lawmakers placed on a Lafayette Planned Parenthood clinic earlier this year.

Republican lawmakers passed a set of rules mandating that clinics which perform chemical abortions meet the same standards as those that perform surgical abortions.

A U.S. District Court Judge blocked the start of the new law Tuesday while she considers a challenge filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana.

The law would effectively shut down the only abortion clinic in Lafayette by requiring it add things like a recovery room and surgical equipment.
