Approximately 2,400 customers of Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC remain out of power due to damage caused by severe weather conditions. The largest concentrations of damage are located in the Freedom, Linton, Newark, Clay City, and Coal City areas, with outages scattered throughout the UDWI service territory.
Eleven crews are currently working to restore power. Severe weather and impassable roads continue to slow down restoration efforts, and it is likely that many locations will remain out of power through the night and into tomorrow.
CEO Brian Sparks urges members without power to make the move to a safe location. “Safety for our members and our crews is our priority as we work diligently to restore power throughout our service territory. During this time, we urge our members who are still out of power to move immediately to a safe location if possible.”
As the day progresses, UDWI will be sending additional information via Twitter and Facebook. Anyone needing assistance to move to a safe location should call the REMC office at 812.384.4446 or 800.489.7362 and ask for Lyna Landis (ext. 246) or Jake Graf (ext. 219).
