Gibson County Considering $8.6M in Improvements

Gibson County is considering spending $8.6 million on a multi-purpose events center and other improvements to make its fairgrounds a year-round hub of activity.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports the plan includes seven million dollars to build five new buildings and about one-point-six million for updates to water, sewer, and electric utilities, plus paving and the demolition of some outdated buildings.

The main building would be an 18-thousand square foot multi-use events center that would seat up to 640.

Project manager Jeff Clark asked the Gibson County Commissioners Tuesday for permission to request Tax Increment Financing assistance for the project.

Board President Gerald Bledsoe says he will seek input from the public before the commissioners vote on whether to allow the request to go to the redevelopment board.
