Murder Suspect Makes Court Appearance

A man is being held in the White County, Illinois Jail on two-million dollars bond in the shooting death of 58-year-old Sandra Burkhardt of rural Poseyville, Indiana.

Burkhardt's body was found in a White County cornfield Saturday.

25-year-old Thomas Davidson made his first court appearance Monday in White County.

He's charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Authorities say Burkhardt was last seen leaving Princeton's Wal-Mart store Friday night.

White County Sheriff Doug Maier says investigators believe Davidson forced her into Illinois a short time later and shot her four times near Crossville, then crashed her car in Pike County Indiana.

Indiana police arrested Davidson Saturday while investigating burglaries in Pike and Warrick Counties, a shooting in Posey County, and Burkhardt's disappearance.
